Paula L. Hartley Clayton was appointed as a Hearing Officer for the 18th Judicial District Court in August 2003. She hears all family law related cases in the Parishes of Iberville, Pointe Coupee and West Baton Rouge Parish.
Ms Clayton received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science in 1988 and her Juris Doctor in 1991. She entered into private practice in Port Allen with the Clayton Law Firm where she practiced primarily in family law until her appointment as Hearing Officer. She also taught at Baton Rouge College several subjects in paralegal studies.
She has served as an Assistant Public Defender in the 18th Judicial District from 1995 to 1998. In November 2000 she became an Assistant District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District, until her appointment as Hearing Officer.
Ms. Clayton is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association Board of Governors. She serves on the Child Support Committee for the Louisiana Law Institute. She is also a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, Private Investigator Board, Louis A. Martinet Legal Society-Former Secretary, and Baton Rouge Bar Association-Pro Bono Section-Family Law Section-Former Co-Chairperson for Uniform for Kids, Member of Forum 35, Former Board Member of Forum 35, and Former Member of The 18th JDC Public Defender Board.
She is also a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in New Roads, Louisiana. She is married to Tony Clayton; they have one son.
